Reportedly, there are myriad good reasons to increase our consumption of walnuts. Who knew? Well, I didn’t until I read Dr. Andrew Weil’s blog (see below), and now I’m a believer! Dr. Weil enlightened me about the amazing health benefits that come with the common but until-now underrated walnut. Safe to say, it’s a superfood!

Wondering what to reach for when you want a snack? How about five whole walnuts. Treat yourself right!

Small changes in your diet can have a beneficial and lasting impact on your well-being. One example, according to Dr. Weil’s blog, is simply eating 4-5 walnuts a day … what could be easier? This, of course, assumes you do not have a nut allergy. Big picture: walnuts contain the healthy fats we’ve been hearing about, like those in avocados and olive oil. Good fats are essential to a healthy diet. They are also associated with weight loss. Say What!!?. That’s right, it’s true—the correct balance of good fats in the diet can normalize hormone levels and help one lose weight. Nuts in general are great sources of nutrients and healthy fats. Just pay attention to how they’re processed—and reach for the salt-free variety!
