Notes from Land’s End: Jan. 10

January 10th, 2012

With the New Year in full swing, Cape Codders are rolling out of bed and getting to that gym, pool or yoga studio. Many folks are soloists, but others put the petal to the metal and start an exercise program through a dare.

Will it work? Brian Carlson, a 2011 PFC participant, says that the program has had a lasting effect. He’s made permanent and beneficial changes to his lifestyle and diet.
After the success of her 2011 Provincetown Fitness Challenge, Life Coach/Master Trainer Denise Gaylord wanted to offer it again. Rosa Buttrick, manager of Seamen Bank’s Shank Painter branch, suggested that she make it a town-wide opportunity by offering affordable prices. After eight months of planning, Gaylord delivered, providing a twelve-week program ranging from $259.00 to $229.00 a person.

One hundred people, including nine high school students (on scholarship) will participate in the 2012 Provincetown Fitness Challenge (PFC). Gaylord is ecstatic, saying “Our town is filled with so many creative people who love a challenge and want to get fit.” She’s grateful for the resounding support from local businesses and fitness organizations.

Build Your Bones with Dan McGhie.
Bringing twenty years of experience and a deep commitment to the health and well-being of others, Gaylord has created an extraordinary event. You’ll be able to follow PFC’s progress on their website and Face Book page. Starsiturepdi Cape Cod Times Reporter MaryAnn Bragg will be following three people’s progress starting January 17th through the April 7th completion.

This formidable group has access to the following facilities one day a week for the duration of the program:

Monday: Provincetown Gym
Tuesday: HeartCore Studio
Wednesday: Beach Point Health and Swim Club
Thursday: Strength and Clarity Pilates
Friday: Mussel Beach

In addition, Videographer Daniel Llata will document the challenge, as he did in 2011. Photographer Dan McKeon is taking the participants’ Before and After Pictures. Body conscious businesses like 141 Market are providing discounts.
